Chicago Ramblings
This is the first of my previously mentioned weekly posts about the goings ons in Chicago. I spent about 2 days pondering what the title would be, and after much deliberation settled on the above. For those who don't know the Loyola mascot is the Rambler and Rambling is what I'll be doing on these posts. As a bonus, Nick's Rules of Life #122 states: Never pass up a chance to use a clever double entendre. On we go:
2007 is starting out as one of those "well it can only get better from here years." I am now 0-2 on jobs where I got a second interview and have recently been informed that when my loans go off of their grace period in a month I will owe something along the lines of $52,000 per month for the next 77 years. I also have a hang nail. Other than that things are actually ok. The Bears have been a welcome distraction these past couple weeks and I'm looking forward to a big house party on Sunday. Side note: We went to a bar for the game last week (12:00 start) and there were lines formed outside the majority of sports bars as early as 10:00 Am - bars don't open until 11. So we aren't messing with that this weekend because with a 2:00 start we'd still have to get there around 9 in the morning. Davis is going to the Colt's game and I can't begin to tell you how happy I will be if the Bears play the Colts in the Super Bowl. Mind you, if the Bears win I may be looking for a new place to live - but dare I say it might be worth it. Also, I just signed up to run a 5K called the Shamrock Shuffle. Its a pretty popular thing for 20 somethings in Chicago and is the weekend after St. Patty's day. Not sure what Im getting myself into but I heard the party for the runners afterwards was bumpin.
As with all my posts I'd like to include what I've been doing to expand my horizon's/tastes in the 07. Or just what I've been into lately. Just suggestions for anyone looking for something new to entertain them. Here's the first installment:
Listen: Neutral Milk Hotel: In the Aeroplane over the Sea. You can put this in the "expansion of horizons" category. This isn't for everyone but I ran across the album and kind of like it, but its a little different. Melissa might be the only one into it. Think: something Zach Braff would like meets Radiohead.
(for all you new Ipod'ers: you can preview all the songs on the album in Itunes. On this particular album I recommend "Holland, 1945" and "In the Aeroplane over the Sea")
Read: "Life of Pi" by Yan Martel. I realize this is a couple years old and some of you may actually have read it already, but I just finished it in 3 days. It was a little odd at first but the ending is well worth it. (almost like you read 399 pages to get set up for one sentence) For those of you who need a little reaffirmation of faith in your life - like I did/do - this is a great, entertaining read.
Watch: Rome, Season 2. Decidedly not an expansion of any horizon, but put it this way: The Bears won their first playoff game in 20 years last Sunday AND Jack Bauer was welcomed back to watercooler conversations around the country, but the best thing on TV was the season 2 premier of Rome. Mind you I watched it after the other two and I may or may have not been drinking in celebration of the aformentioned NFL game but it was frigging sweet. Not for the faint of heart, but damn I want to be a Roman back then.

Great stuff. You'll be fine, hard to see right now, good things are coming. They always do. Go Bears
Bravo Bravo.
That is what a post is suppose to look like people!
Nick, I second dad in saying that good things are coming...usually when you least expect them to.
Finally- Great idea with the music, books and tv/movie update. I will definetly take that idea and run with it.
Go bears. ( i dont have any team to cheer for, so officially put me on the band wagon.)
